Acupuncture?
I decided to give it a try. I'm 40 weeks and 4 days and exhausting all efforts before this little guy has to be medically induced. So, I had my second acupuncture treatment today. Not sure if it's working, but it's actually kind of relaxing during it. Today she said she used bigger, longer needles, but I really can't even feel any of it. When she was done today and I was watching her pulling them all out, she told me I probably didn't want to watch and I said it didn't bother me. She said "I think you ready for pain of contraction". I hope so! At this point, I would welcome that pain because it means he will be born soon. In the mean time, I have no real signs of impending labor, but I am exhausted most of the time. Going to the doc tomorrow and hoping for progression, but I wouldn't be surprised if I'm the exact same I've been for over a month. Good news is she wants to monitor the baby from here on out, so I'll get a sonogram and get to see that little stinker. Unless, of course, he wants to grace us with his presence tonight which we would make me ecstatic!

40 Weeks - Thanksgiving (and a stubborn little turkey!)
Today is the official day. I for sure thought we'd have a little bundle to hold and be thankful for by now, and yet - we are no less thankful that he is deciding to stay put a little longer. I say I'm thankful and I truly am that we are both still healthy and this pregnancy has been uneventful, BUT...I cannot stress enough how ready I am for Payson to be here! We are ALL ready. I seriously feel like he is not coming out on his own. Lord knows I've tried everything. I even lost a pound at my last appointment most likely due to all the walking I'm doing trying to walk him out. I got acupuncture for the first time in my life and was hopeful, but alas, no difference today. The twins were 5 weeks old by this time! Sheesh! So, we didn't really plan to cook on Thanksgiving considering we may or may not be in the hospital. Looks like we won't be, but thank goodness for great friends who invited us to their Thanksgiving dinner. I just have to make some pies which I'm about to do. I also decorated the house for Christmas this morning (with the help of two little elves) and took a 2 mile walk. So, if Payson decides to come today, I just may be too tired to push him out:) I think I'll find some strength somewhere though. Pray for his arrival, please...soon and safe!

39 and Holding
Yep, I'm still here, as big as a house, waiting on Payson to decide he's done taking up all the space in my abdomen. You would think he's not very comfy in there considering all the squirming he does 24/7, but nope--he seems to like his home in my belly just fine. And the kicker is I'm not really physically miserable...no swelling to speak of, still walking around, no pain, etc. It's the mental part that's testing my patience. Mentally, I'm so DONE...I don't want to pregnant anymore; I want to hold and meet this baby; I want to celebrate Thanksgiving with a baby, not a belly that has very little room for food anymore. But, alas, just chalking this up to lessons God teaches me and I have yet to learn...patience, no worries, I'm not in control, peace, it's not about me, praise Him in suffering, joy in trials. And in the long run, I really have NOTHING to complain about...this baby and myself are and have been healthy throughout this pregnancy and he's going to be born big (or "solid" as my doctor said yesterday) and ready to face the world...unlike the twins who needed a little more time and help. Isn't that what I wanted? Yes, but after being pregnant for just 35 weeks last time, 39 seems like eternity. Hoping to share a birth story not an overdue story next post!!!

Still Pregnant
38 weeks and here I am - the same as I was at 37 weeks...no progress. I truly never thought my body or this baby would hold on so tightly. Somewhere in the deepest part of me, I am truly thankful despite how mentally done I am with being pregnant. I know the longer, the better for baby if he's not ready to emerge, but sheesh! So, I'm eating pineapple and spicy food, walking around the neighborhood, bouncing on the exercise ball, and well - you know (wink, wink). But...nothing seems to be changing. Baby is in control, not me. However, I'd really like him here before Thanksgiving!!! It's getting colder and I have no pants that fit.

37 weeks
Technically, baby is fully cooked this week??!! So, I'd say he needs to go ahead and make an appearance! I'm 2 centimeters dilated, 50% effaced, and baby is in a -3 position if any of that means anything to any of you. My belly is huge - possibly just as big as when the twins were born. Again, I guarantee this baby is some sort of giant. And I still feel like I'm the most commented on pg lady in the history of the world. Exhibit A: deli worker behind the counter asks "So, are you, like, gonna have that baby in the store today?" B: lady at Porter's football game passes me, looks at my belly, and just mouths "Oh my gosh" with a sad face while shaking her head. Oh well. A few more weeks, I can handle. I also now have a resurgence of nausea. Not much sounds good to eat lately, save for Halloween candy. Surely I can survive on that for just a few weeks, right? I did get a prenatal massage today which was heavenly! And yay for this cooler weather. It really makes all the difference in my attitude lately. Thank you Lord for a taste of Fall today!! To top it off, my mom is here now!! Blessings abound. So, we just wait and pray for Payson to arrive soon, safe, and healthy! Maybe my next post will be his birth day:)

Wildhouse Part 1
We had an amazing photographer take our pre-baby family/my big belly photos a few weeks ago. Here are a few of the ones we have so far. There are more to come! She's also coming to the house to photograph Payson a few weeks after he's born--can't wait! We took the pics on the UT grounds. It was a smooth and easy session and I'd highly recommend Tali to photograph your family! Although, I can't help, but stare at my belly button in each picture. Not only is it way out there, but it looks like I have two. That's what I get for having it pierced all those years ago, I guess? Oh well. Click the link below for Tali Wildman's blog... Our Funny Morning...
The kids woke up as usual, got dressed, etc. I'm in my bathroom getting ready, about to fix breakfasts when I look at Porter and his eyes look a little blood shot. I chalked it up to allergies?? Tyler was home this morning which is rare, so he had a look since he is an eye and ear specialist:) Tyler said "Nope, he has pink eye!". Well, crap. We scour the house for Alcon's pink eye drop, vigamox, which we find none of. So, Tyler calls his rep that lives 5 minutes away and goes to get some. Meanwhile, Porter keeps crying 1) Because he may have to miss school - he adores school! 2) Because he has to have drops in his eyes - he hates eye and/or ear drops. After breakfast and as Tyler pulls up with the medicine, I suddenly realize...today of all days at school is WEAR YOUR SUNGLASSES TO SCHOOL DAY! How perfect is that!?!?! So, Tyler gives him a few eye drops, I slap on the sunglasses and my boy with pink eye is ready for school. You may think we are irresponsible parents to let him go, but he knows not to touch his eyes and that's how it spreads. And if not, we have a new baby coming and we really could use the extra kids with pink eye to buy Alcon drops. Kidding. But seriously, if you could see how sad he was that he was going to miss school, you would have let him go, too:) I haven't gotten a call from the school, so I assume he's keeping his glasses on and has told his teachers he has "allergies" if they ask.

"You Don't Look Pregnant from Behind" and other comments...
Because I am pregnant, I will allow people to make constant comments, stare, make faces and ask silly questions. But, folks, you only have a few more weeks, so get it all out now. No one has really touched my belly, thank goodness, but I hear all of this a lot...
"Are you sure there is just one in there this time?"
"You are carrying so high...must be a girl...must be a boy"
"You are all belly"
"You don't look pregnant from behind"
"Looks like you are about ready to have that baby!"
"When you were pregnant with the twins, your arms and legs were a lot bigger, huh?"
"How much weight have you gained?"
And then of course there was the homeless man who bid me good luck because he has a granddaughter whom he can't stand. Nice.
For some reason, people think all rules are off when talking about pregnant women and their bodies. I'm not so sure about that, but I'm sure I've been guilty in the past.
So...YES, I'm ready to have this baby, although he needs to probably cook at least 2 more weeks. YES, there is just ONE in there and he is squirmy and takes up my entire torso, so I have no idea how two fit. YES, I obviously carry my babies high - my ribs literally burn. I'm not sure what it means that you can't tell I'm pregnancy from behind? I have a baby in my uterus, not my back or butt, although, I can guarantee you, my butt has grown in the process. Now, I wasn't aware I had Michelin Man arms and legs while pg with the twins, but thanks:) And as to my weight, I try to never look at the scale, but I have an idea. However, there is absolutely NOTHING I can do in the ways of gaining or losing. I eat when I'm hungry which is often. I eat what I can stomach which depends from day to day. And I am literally incapable of exercise - ouch. Baby is in control of this body and it's absolutely ok! I can use the rest:)

Almost 33 weeks...
I think I'm ballooning at a rapid pace now. This baby just may be a little giant. He also moves constantly. It's pretty crazy to feel and watch. I still have braxton hicks contractions, but I guess it's just what my body does during pregnancy. They are WAY less frequent with one baby rather than two, however. I have no real food cravings (besides those I can't have like a margarita, a large caffeinated coffee, or cold cuts that are not heated in the microwave - give me a plain ole cold subway, please!). For food aversions...wondering if I'll ever love hummus again since I ate it the night before my first major morning sickness. I have also given up on being comfortable - especially in the car or in the bed. This morning I twisted my ankle on the way down the stairs, so today walking isn't thrilling either. Besides all of that, I am really thankful for the health of this baby and myself...he is growing (obviously!), is head down and active, my blood pressure is lower than when I'm not pregnant, no gestational diabetes, and no swelling. The weight I'm gaining - that's another story, but it's just temporary is what I'm telling myself! The weeks are now passing by quickly and he will be here before we know and I'm READY! Worrying a bit about how it will all go down...I only know how to deliver and nurse twins:) And now that I have two other children to care for at the same time as a newborn - not sure about that. Just praying and trusting for the time being. And that's good enough!

Thoughts on Bullying...
I'm hearing lots of media talk today of sad, sad cases of bullying in schools. My thoughts immediately go to my own kids as they've just entered school. In the next 12+ years, chances are they will encounter their share of "mean kids" and unjust bullying. That someone could not see how great my kids are is beyond me, but I know it will happen. It will break my heart and hurt their feelings and I'm praying now that they will talk to us about it all and more than that, talk to their Lord - where their security rests.
I had my share of bullying (6 schools in 3 cities and people don't always like the new girl)...I was a tiny, shy, white, blonde-headed girl bussed to a junior high across town where I was a minority. A short, hispanic girl named Cathy wanted to fight me on the first day I was there. I kept dodging her until one day when I came out of the bathroom stall where her and her minions were surrounding me. I was saved by the janitor--shew. But after school each day put me in a panic. Luckily, she had lots of detentions and missed me on most days. One particular day I recall because I brought a pocket knife to school and stuffed it in my back pocket on my way out the door after school. I didn't see Cathy that day and thank God because I may still be in trouble for whatever I thought I may do with that knife? Crazy. However, we never fought and she soon got over whatever it was about me that angered her so. I think the next year, we were good friends. But, I didn't escape the year without being punched in the face and my lip busted...Derek, an older boy on my bus with orange tinted glasses had it out for me. However, my knight in shining skateboarding shoes took care of Derek for me. At the time, it was lovely to watch. Now - I know Derek must have been suffering in other areas of his life and/or home to harbor so much anger and violence.
Despite my survival, I still fear the harsh words and actions that may come to my kids throughout their school career. As I was hearing the horrible stories on tv and worrying about my own kids, I happened to read 1 Peter 2...
9For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22"He committed no sin,and no deceit was found in his mouth." 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
I am so thankful that we never endure anything that HE does not fully understand!
Side note: I was not innocent and surely made fun of people who were not deserving and I feel bad for it now. Not only do I pray my kids receive kindness, but that they, too, are kind and loving to others no matter what!

Don't Forget...
...To Play in the Rain!
When someone forgets to tell me football practice is cancelled and when it starts to downpour on the walk home, PLAY:) And it's even more fun when our neighbors playing at the nearby park are caught in the downpour, too!

Payson's First Shower...
Lastly, at the shower, my cousin Pat was asking about the pregnancy and said "And they said it would never happen". As much as I complain about pregnancy and as much as I was shocked and unprepared for this to happen, I never want to take away from the miracle that God has done by blessing us with this life. When "they" said it wouldn't happen, HE called things that were NOT as though they WERE. He is a great healer, provider, and obviously, surpriser:) As my wise friend said..."We can't wait to see how God is going to sanctify you through this new life".

28ish Weeks
*Pain in my hips for having to sleep on my dadgum side all the time! I'm a back sleeper by nature:(
*Hunger; no room for food; heartburn (all in that order).
*Sore feet! I didn't walk around with the twins, but the bottoms of feet are killing me this time around? Maybe due to all the extra weight they support:)??
*HATE driving or riding in a car...the MOST uncomfortable position to be in. Yuck.
*SLEEPINESS! I can barely keep my eyes open past 9pm.
*Constant movement from the little babe and the occasional case of feeling his hiccups (these I do not EVER mind).
Tomorrow I have my glucose test. I'm PRAYING I pass. Ugh!!!
In other news, I broke down and got my hair colored. Tony and Guy has never failed me, but this time, I swear she made me a shade of grey? Not too fond of it, but not getting it fixed...sitting in a hair chair is much like a car driver or passenger seat.

1 Week Down...
Highlights of the week...
* Porter was chosen as "Artist of the Day" in art class for being so good! Yay!!!
* Mr. Grumbles, the PE teacher (it will be interesting to see if that's his real name and not just their interpretation) taught them how to skip perfectly!
* No tears all week (excluding my own).
* They've made new friends to play with and really seem to like their teacher!
* We took the crossing guard homemade cookies:)
Tyler is home now - shew! So, next week can only get better...right? Thank you, Lord!
P.S. The picture is of the "About Me" posters we made. Their first "homework":)

Week 25
So, today I'm 25 weeks pregnant. With the twins, I'd already been on bed rest one full week by now! Thank you LORD that's not in the picture this time. However, I'm still uncomfortable, lazy, and growing by the minute. I really just don't understand those women who stay skinny everywhere save for their little bellies, run marathons, eat salads, etc. I'm not complaining - I could be in way worse shape, but seriously...sometimes I feel like my body is rejecting pregnancy. I have stopped all cardio activity and started pre natal yoga which really seems to be helping. But, I pee every 30 minutes, and today especially, my stomach is an endless pit! Hopefully, that means baby P is growing and not my butt. However, I'm sure it's both. On the bright side, I've got some great boobs; have an excuse for almost anything I don't want to do (i.e. cook, clean, carry objects, go upstairs, etc.); and get to feel this active life inside my tummy kicking around all the time. I should probably start referring to him as his name...Payson. Yep, that's what we've picked (unless he comes out and looks like something totally different). No middle name yet - searching for a "K".
In other news, the P's start KINDERGARTEN in ONE week! Unbelievable, really. It will be bittersweet, I know. I will miss them and worry about them, but they will be learning and growing so much and I will get lots of rest and lots of baby-prep done! I always thought when they started school, I'd get a part time job. That may be delayed for about 5 years.**We painted Payson's room (just this one wall) in random blue, brown, and orange stripes. I LOVE it!

That Girl...
While playing the Wii, Piper messes up, throws her head back and exclaims, "Dammit!". Porter and I both look at her and Porter says, "Piper said 'Dummit'" She corrects him, "No, I said 'Dammit'". I don't think she thought she did anything wrong. This is the problem. So, I explained we don't say that and next time would be trouble. When I tell Tyler the story later, I of course get all the blame. Well, at least it took her 5 years:)

Rest - UGH!
So, after 15 weeks preggo, the sickness subsided and I felt semi-normal. I even went back to the gym. However now at 22 weeks, after a fun beach weekend, kickboxing Monday, and walking yesterday, I felt awful! I even had a few braxton hicks contractions which scared me to death because at this point with the twins, I started having them and never stopped and was put on strict bed rest for 11 weeks! So, immediately, all that fear came to me - fear for this baby, fear for my 2 kids who would like to have their mama not in bed all day, and for me - I feel like I missed out on a "normal" pregnancy last time and was so looking forward to it this time. So, all afternoon and evening I laid on the couch and guzzled water and decided to take it easy even if I feel good. As a wise friend said "It's frustrating how little I can do while pregnant", but I will do what it takes to care for this little one to stay put for 40 weeks (18 left!) and to care for my other two by staying OFF bed rest. I have the rest of my life to be active, but I have 4 more months to incubate this baby boy, so that is my focus. Besides, once again, God is at it getting me to "be still and know"...something I obviously never learn, but am always challenged to do. Thank you, friends, who prayed for me in my fear, and praise God who, for today, has made me and baby feel good, but even if tomorrow is bad again, His grace is sufficient.

Summer!
I LOVED last summer in Kansas. We had crazy mild temps, went to Mexico, ate outside everyday, camped, traveled, etc. But...this summer is really stacking up and I'm so glad. It's really making this pregnancy fly by and in my opinion, that's a good thing:) We just got back from a spur of the moment trip to the lake with our Austin college buds and some a little further away that we probably hadn't seen since college. Out of the 4 couples, EVERY woman was at a different stage of pregnancy. But with 8 adults, 5 kids, and 3 dogs running around a lake cabin, we all managed. The house and the company were LOVELY! We had a blast...swimming, eating, riding jet skis, laughing, and relaxing. Now, we have TWO days back home before we're up and at 'em again with our Dallas buds at a South Padre beach condo. We've been planning it for a while and it's finally here - yay!!! We have some amazing friends and I do not take it for granted. God is sweetly gracious to allow them in our lives!

20/20
20 weeks preggo with number three! That means I'm HALF WAY THERE! Baby is moving and active, I'm not sick, and until early evening when I crash on the couch every night, I have some pretty good energy. Even going to the gym (although my weight gain thus far doesn't reflect that!). I'm blaming it on the heat and humidity making me swell. Ha. Piper is coming along nicely accepting the idea of a baby BOY. We even made our first baby purchase...bedding! So cute, too. We were going to make it because I hadn't seen any that I loved. I had colors in my mind...brown, blue, and orange. But - we found a clearance floor model (last one!) that was perfect, so we grabbed it up. Still contemplating that name. So far, our top two are Phoenix and Payson with middle name as possibly Kyler? Trying to stick with "PK". We'll see what he actually ends up with! Until then, I leave some belly pics. I was so enthusiastic with them last pregnancy. Not so much this time. Below is 21 weeks with the twins and then 20 weeks today...

Out-numbered...
We knew either way, girls or boys were going to be out-numbered in this house. The question answered yesterday was which one? Well, boys win. This baby is an active, healthy, baby boy! We ALL packed into the sonogram room and saw baby on the screen. Porter was excited at the news and said he knew it was a boy all along (although he would have been just as excited for a girl). Piper, however, is still in a bit of depression. She really had her heart set on a girl and afterwards if we would try to explain and console her, she just said "I don't want to talk about this right now". I know she will be a great big sister, though, and love this baby as soon as he is born. We got a cute little profile pic on the sono and in comparison to P & P at this same age, he is Porter's third twin - identical this time. So, now the hard part is here...a NAME! We had a girl name ready and a few boy names we were playing around with, but now that he is a sure thing, I want to LOVE his name we pick and I'm not there yet with any we have on the short list. We may just have to stray from "P"??!! Who knows. Feel free to offer your suggestions. We need them! Name or not, we are praising God for this healthy little life and overjoyed and still in shock that he is in there:)

Stitched
We spent a long weekend in Dallas for Tyler's family reunion. It was a great trip - got to see family we haven't seen in a while and our college buddies, too. We stayed in a hotel which is always the greatest thing for kids for some reason. They loved it and even more so since there was a pool. However...the swimming was cut short when Piper jumped in too close to the side, spun around mid-air to grab the side, and came down on her chin, splitting it open an inch wide and chipping a back baby tooth. My kids have never even been to the doctor except for a well visit, so this was a major event for us! One look at her chin, though, and Tyler and I knew she was going to need stitches. There was an urgent care really close by, so we rushed her there. They were fast and sweet and took great care of Piper.
I have to say, she was an absolute trooper! She was so calm after the initial shock, and only screamed when the doctor deadened her chin with the needle (I would have too!). She was absolutely still and controlled for every stitch (5 total). Only Tyler got a bit queasy and had to sit a while:) Love it.
Since then, she has yet to complain one time about her chin and was back playing and running around the next day like nothing ever happened. Porter is my more dramatic child, so it's actually a good thing that it was Piper instead of him. However, he is also my sensitive one and as soon as we left to take Piper, he went over to Aunt Kristine and said a sweet prayer for his sister.
We hope there are no more stitches, but are thankful that it wasn't any worse than it was and that she is totally fine!

16 weeks
Well, the good news is I'm hardly nauseas anymore. Still lots I won't eat and some crazy things I do, but that's just pregnancy. The bad news is I'm exhausted and a total bump on a log. And I guess that's just pregnancy with two 5 year olds. At the doc yesterday I'd gained 10 pounds. I thought that was great (considering I only have a twin pregnancy to compare this one to and I'd probably gained double that at 16 weeks last time)!! My doc didn't praise me for my 10 pounds, but didn't really say it was bad either. Just said it was "ok". Whatever. I'm still not feeling baby kicking around in there. Maybe in the next week. The heartbeat is always good and strong and easy to find, though. Super excited to find out the sex...June 30th - woohoo! I can't believe it's already time for that.

*We just attended cousin Matt's wedding. Lots of work, lots of fun, lots of pretty scenery. Kids had an absolute blast! If I had turned sideways for this picture, you'd see a bump:)

2 Wheels
Thursday Piper said she wanted her training wheels OFF! She's been riding with the training wheels raised pretty high and doing well, so I knew she could do it if she would get over the fear. This was the day. She's a determined little girl:)!
So, it was just too much for Porter to watch Piper two-wheelin' it all day while his training wheels were still on (although he was hardly relying on them), so that night, I asked him to try out Piper's bike and he did and he rode it with ease!!!! It took him about a day to catch on to starting off and turning, but now they are both pros and want to ride every chance they get!
I think I was in the 3rd grade before my best friend, Heidi, taught me how to ride a bike by letting me go off the end of her driveway (in Austin)!
So, Preschool graduation AND no training wheels all in one week!!! I guess having a new baby around is going to be good because I'm not ready to let go as they grow so fast...just yet:)

My babies are FIVE!

Five sounds old! I remember being five. They will remember everything from now on! They are registered for Kindergarten. Piper can tie her shoes and Porter can whistle. BUT...they still love their mama and will hold my hand and give me plenty of hugs and kisses, so I'm still hanging on:)
We've had a fun few days celebrating...party with friends on Saturday at the park with a jump house (that showed up super late, but gave us a super discount, so it was all good!), donut holes taken to preschool to share, special day with Mommy and Daddy on their actual day (scavenger hunt to gifts, kites and play at the park, dinner of their choice - Pei Wei), plus TONS of fun, new toys and gifts to occupy.
I also always love celebrating Mother's Day the same weekend we celebrate their birthdays - so special!!
Before too long, we are going to start all over and will have a REAL baby around again. So weird! God's plans are surely not our own! However, we are getting super excited. My belly has popped out this week (almost 12 weeks pg). I was on the treadmill and after he asked why I was "just walking", Porter was staring at my belly and said "It looks funny, but I'm not going to laugh". Thanks, Son.
*Side note: A friend recommended to me recently that I start a separate blog of all the funny things Tyler says. Not a bad idea. It may get a lot of hits and I know I would never run out of anecdotes. Well, today, I learned that Tyler says "Yokey Doke" instead of "Okey Doke", as in - "Hey, Tyler, will you get me a glass of water?"..."Yokey Doke, coming right up!" How have I not caught this until today? I'm not sure.

"He's Cute...I'd Date Him"
Tyler's been out of town since Wednesday and I just read my friend's blog about how she met her husband. So, I'm feeling nostalgic and am sharing our story - just in case you haven't already heard. Chances are, you have, because it's one of my favorite's to tell:)
In college (Howard Payne - sting em' Jackets, folks!) I knew Tyler and we shared a few mutual friends AND he dated my roommate for a few months. However, I transferred schools after my junior year and he stayed there. In June of 1998, I was attending my best friend, Angi's bridal shower...I was her maid of honor and Tyler was an usher in the wedding. So...at the shower Angi was trying to fix her cousin up with someone in the wedding party and asked my opinion. My exact words were "What about Tyler Price? He's cute - I'd date him!" and the rest is history. Angi told Kip, her then fiance, and Kip had lunch with Tyler the next week and told him, and Tyler called me and asked me out. If I knew it was going to be so easy, I might have said something sooner:) Anyway, our first date was the night of Kip and Angi's wedding. We went to dinner (with the entire wedding party) and then back to his sister's apartment to rent a movie (he was living on her couch at the time). Three weeks later after several dates, we went with a group to a lake house for the weekend and I was smitten. After he dropped me off at my apartment after the weekend, I remember sobbing into my frozen waffle, repeating "I love him!". Quite dramatic, huh?
We were engaged just a few months later in November and married the following July. Now we're coming up on 11 years and he just gets better with age. He loves me more than I deserve and makes me laugh more than I can handle. He's the best person I know. In fact, I think he's the best person most people know!
Oh my lover
I've come to discover
There is no other for me
From the beginning
My heart you've been winning
Leaving me grinning with glee
What it would be like
Without you in my life
I can't with my might
Foresee
My life you have blessed
My lips you have kissed
On goes the list
Indeed
So on this day
To you I say
I love you always
Love, me.

Garage Sale for Orphans Part 2: Results
We didn't quite make it to $1000, but 4 families pulled off $630 and we decided that was pretty dang good. Besides raising money for an amazing cause...an orphanage in Haiti, we had a beautiful morning with great friends and food and laughter. The kids got in on the action walking around selling brownies for $1...kind of a steep price, but not many people told them no:) So, we de-cluttered, had fun, and carried out part of our duty here on earth...caring for the poor, needy, orphans, and widows. Garage Sale for Orphans
Want to take part in the bigger picture by doing something you may do this year anyway???!!! Get a few families together and hold a garage sale, giving all the proceeds to Haiti or Zimbabwe to build an orphanage thru Help End Local Poverty. Awesome organization! Sponsor a child while you're at it! We're holding our family garage sale/bake sale this Saturday and hoping to make at least $1000 to donate. Help's goal is to get 100 garage sales to each earn $1000 this year...$100,000! That will build 4 orphanages! Do it. I'll post the results of ours soon!

Days at Home
Some people don't find it weird to stay inside all day. Me and my peeps, however, are movers and doers! I'm not saying this is necessarily a good or bad thing--just how we're wired. I grew up that way and so I'm used to it, I guess. I was always on the move with my dad...the store, test driving cars, the park, a movie, eating out, the pool, etc. He was the most social man I've ever known. And so from the moment I could get out with my infant twins, we were meeting friends at the mall, shopping at Target and eating out. It's all they've known. They stay with my mom sometimes and I'll ask what they did and they just stay home all day and I find it crazy. BUT...with this sickness baby#3 is kind enough to provide me and with this nice dreary, wet weather we're having, staying indoors is our only option in my opinion. In fact, staying in pajamas all day is perfectly fine with me, too. I hear a few "What can we do?" comments and "Where are we going today?", but we're doing okay, considering. Today we worked on spelling words and writing letters and then I made a scavenger hunt across the house hiding notes all over the place, one leading to the next, and ending up with a prize. They loved it! Tyler built a fort out of pillows and blankets and I painted their faces in the animals of their choosing. Naps now and I dare say - the sun may be peeking out! However, I'm determined to stay in my pajamas anyway:) Once again, God is using things out of my control to teach me to "be still and know". He's good and his mercy is new every morning.

Sickety Sick Sick
If you haven't been burdened with hearing my sob sick story, read on. For those of you that are reminded on a daily basis, you may want to skip this. Maybe it's because I'm 5 years older than the last time I was pregnant; maybe it's because I have two pre schoolers to tend to at the same time as pregnancy; maybe it's because this baby is a little superhuman sucking all life and appetite from it's mother?!?! Whatever, the case, I'm so sick. Not throwing up (anymore), but gagging at the drop of a hat or the smell of my pantry - all day long. Nothing is good except at a random occasion when a Chuy's #9 satisfies - until I'm done eating and then the nausea quickly returns. I'm freakish about taking medicine, but I've tried a phenegren ONCE and all it did was knock me out only to awake just as sick as I was before my coma. Combo of B6 and Unisom - same effect. Ginger? Gag. The sickies lasted till 15 weeks with the twins. I'm praying that it doesn't last longer than that this time and am hoping a miracle occurs and it's over by the second trimester...just 4 more (LONG) weeks! But, enough complaining. I'm incubating a miracle. God is awesome and I am shocked every time I think about how gracious He is to surprise us with this little healthy, strong, life - sans fertility treatments. So, SOME of the time while I'm rolling around the couch in stomach grief, I am thankful - because I know that means our little bean is okay.
And oh yeah - I got bangs. Most days I like them, but sometimes I have 1980's flash backs.

Full House...
I sit here all alone and sick as can be. Tyler took the kids to school, picked them up, and took them to dinner at Chick Fil A, too. He's a good man:) 5+ years ago, I felt sick like this on the very day I turned 6 weeks pregnant with the twins. Well, here's to hoping there is only ONE in there this time, but I am indeed, 6 weeks pregnant - again. No one was more surprised than me (and Tyler, of course). With the twins we tried to get pregnant for over 2 years, everything was very planned and calculated, we found out we were preggo at 4 weeks and that they were twins at 6 weeks. This time...some dizzy spells, legs made of lead when trying to run, and then the obvious, led me to take a pregnancy test just in case. It was definitely positive, as well as the other 3 I've taken since then. We are getting used to the idea and very joyful at the thought of it all. We go see the doctor when I am 8 weeks (supposedly that's the time they see you when you are a normal person with a normally begotten pregnancy?!?!). If she does not give me a sonogram and tell me the number I'm carrying, I may be finding a new doctor or sneaking into a pregnancy center and making up a story to get one. The anticipation is killing me almost as much as the puking is. I'm actually hoping I just have a stomach virus that conveniently timed itself with my 6 week mark. Praying it will pass. All I could stomach with the twins was chocolate shakes for breakfast and a variety of beef, pizza, and mexican food for lunch and dinner and snacks:) One time I made Tyler run out and get me Chef Boy R D ravioli. I ate it once and it was the best thing ever, but never again. Let's hope even in my sickness, I can make healthier choices this time. So far, craving NOTHING. Everything is disgusting. Piper is worried about me and thinks I should try a "salad or smoothie":) I was put on bed rest with the twins at 24 weeks until their birth at 35 weeks. Praying, also, that is not even in the picture this time. We'd love nothing more than a seamless pregnancy for me and baby (and all others in the household!). However, in all things, His grace is sufficient. The name game is starting as well as thinking about the shuffling of furniture and rooms. Feel free to offer suggestions on names...to "P" or not? OK, off to my position on the couch and crossing my fingers for a vomit free night. TMI?

Coming down from laughter...
The Youngs and the Lancasters came for a Spring Break visit again this year! So, once more...6 adults and 7 children in 1 house for 3 nights and 4 days. To say we had a blast is an understatement. I cannot explain the laughter we all share when we are together - I'm talking tears, abdominal and face cramps, breathlessness. At one point while driving, I thought I may have to pull the car over so I wouldn't wreck from laughing so hard. I also really enjoyed seeing a slide show and hearing the stories of Adam's trip to Sudan last October, and spiritual discussions that worked their way into our laughter breaks. All eye opening! We ate yummy food, of course, toured a bit of Austin, and took all of our kids bowling on a rainy day (a first for all of the kids and they loved it!). So, imagine our loneliness Wednesday when Tyler left for work out of town and our extended family left for their Dallas homes. From 13 to 3 is quite the shocker! However, we made precious memories and I'm so glad that our kids are getting old enough to remember these times that I hope happen for years and years to come!

Veggies

So, we are ending day 10 of our so called detox/clean eating program. I say so-called because I should technically be eating cold vegetable soups for dinner and my gag reflex just can't do it. I can barely get down the morning smoothies. The first few sips are very good and refreshing and at the end, I have to just chug. Otherwise, it's not all that bad. My body feels cleaner and lighter and my tummy is always settled. I'll definitely do it again, but more along the lines of an 'elimination diet' that just cuts out wheat, sugar, soy, processed food, caffeine, meat, etc. We will for sure eat less of those things from now as well as eating more raw and vegan/vegetarian dishes.
So, with fresh herbs and veggies on the brain...we finally planted our Texas backyard garden. Ours in KS was a hit, so we have high hopes, but know in July when the heat can fry eggs on the sidewalk, it may very well fry our garden as well. We shall see. It is fun to do with the kids, though. We painted the beams Tyler put together, picked out the herbs and veggies (and fruit since we added strawberries this year!), and planted them this afternoon. I never thought I'd be a gardener. My grandparents always had huge ones and I loved helping out with it when I was younger. And now, I love having our own, and hope my kids have fond memories of getting our hands in the dirt, planting, watering, and watching God make it grow.
Tyler's been gone all week and we are ready for him to be home and live up this beautiful, sunny Spring weather with us. We are also ready for our Dallas gang to get here for a few Spring Break days and hang. Woohoo!
Both the kids continue to pray nightly for Haiti. When Chile had the earthquake we told them about it and that we need to pray for them too, so that night Porter wanted to pray for "Haiti and Cold". I'm assuming because if it's "cold" outside, I say, "Oooo, it's 'chilly' out here". Get it? He's got it right now, though:)

Detox...Tolerable.
So, we're ending Day 4 and hoping to make it to 14. It's not too bad now. My cold didn't seem to last too long or get too bad after that first day. I've had some headaches, but am sure that is from coffee withdrawal. Herbal tea doesn't quite do the trick. It is a discipline for sure, but the fun thing is making and trying lots of new things and knowing my body is getting good stuff in it and can be satisfied without that much junk. Hoping I will transition into "normal" eating after this is all over with more awareness of what goes into my "temple". I made some killer salmon that the kids even ate up, discovered we love quinoa, and made a huge pot of fresh veggie soup that was just as good without cheese and bread to sop it up:) I confess the thing I miss most is my coffee and after dinner sugary snack. The coffee will surely be the first thing to return, but I'm hoping I can forgo the nightly sugar for good. We will see. This weekend we are going to try a few of Austin's vegan/vegetarian restaurants (not too hard to come by here as you can imagine!).
Side Note...as I was leaving the gym this morning, I found myself staring at a girl who was staring at me and then we recognized each other. We were junior high besties when I lived in Austin before and kept in touch for a while until I got married. So, I haven't talked to her in 11 years! She lives minutes from me now and just moved back to the area herself. We were both so excited to reunite. Love when God throws me a little surprise that brightens the day! Yay!
And just because I like this recent picture and like to post pics with blog entries...here is my silly girl playing with a rolly poly.

Detox. Boo.
I was so excited to do this detox/clean eating thing. Felt it would do our bodies good and give them a break. Not for weight loss necessarily, but just a fresh start for the Spring. It's basically just no sugar, processed foods, meat, dairy, wheat, etc. and eating fresh veggies, fruit, fish, nuts/seeds. Day 1...breakfast smoothies with fruit, almond milk and whey protein - yum!; lunch was salads from whole foods with just veggies, nuts, oil and vinegar, a little chicken. But as I went to HEB yesterday afternoon to finish off the grocery list, sickness hit me like a fist in the face. I got a huge headache, stuffy nose, and zapped energy. But, I'm a determined person. So, I made dinner - avocado and cucumber soup. Looks pretty and tastes delicious IF YOU HAVE TORTILLA CHIPS TO DIP INTO IT! But on it's own, I could not eat that soup. I have texture issues and it was about the texture of pudding or yogurt and that just doesn't fly in my mouth. So, that mixed with just not feeling well...I went without dinner save for some almonds and herbal tea and was in bed by 9:45pm and I honestly do not remember the last I've been in bed before midnight! Nice. Tyler, however, cleaned off the soup and has been a trooper. Today so far is ok and I just made some salmon for dinner that will totally be palatable. I'm also going to try my hand at some quinoa - we'll see. However, I am making strawberry cake for our small group tonight and not eating it is going to be a challenge. Maybe I'll just lick the beaters and spoons:) That doesn't count, right?

Wednesday Night Thoughts
Tyler travels on Wednesdays and I fill time with useless things. I can't really do lots of laundry or cleaning if he's not here. I'm more motivated when he's home. Strange, I know. So, today me and the kids watched a movie and ate random foods and played Wii. Then, I veg out on the couch and watch American Idol, read blogs, research Clean Eating, blah blah. I'm confessing here...not using my time wisely. This I know.
And these Olympics...I'm just not into them this year. I want them over.
So, the Clean Eating. I think I didn't put on holiday pounds, but I seem to have put on February pounds - too many chips and chocolate. We're gonna detox for a while. Sounds good. We'll see how it goes. Maybe I'll blog about it:)
I'm going to meet my "Little Sister" and her Spanish speaking family in 2 weeks. Praying it all goes well! I have a great affinity for the Mexican culture, but I hope they have one for me! I know mentoring can be powerful and positive.
I really need to get on with the Adoption process. We have information to watch and read and I keep putting it off. Not sure why. Maybe the reality of it now is too scary. Exciting, but scary. We keep thinking about Ethiopia, but who knows?!?!
I'm liking this sewing thing now. As long as it's nothing too complicated. I can thread a bobbin on my own...major step. I made another apron solo and stitched a little butterfly on a shirt for Piper. The first step was getting over the fear:) Shew.
Per our new study in our small group, Family Primer, trying to make sure I take more deliberate time each day to read the Bible as God's Words to me, and pray throughout the day on my own, out loud, and as a family. So, every night as we pray over and for our kids, I now ask them what/who they want to pray for. Piper hasn't piped up yet, but on his own, Porter says "Haiti and the earthquake". Breaks my heart.

Superheros

My kids are in that stage. Almost 5 years old - is that the right age for this? Porter's friends at school have a Star Wars obsession, so that's rubbed off on him a bit. We've watched a few of the older Star Wars movies (you know - the ones with the whiney Luke Skywalker who kisses his sister?). Recently, we watched the original Superman. I forgot how cheesy these things are. They definitely need to remake those. Anyway, there seems to be lots of Biblical parallels in Superhero stories, huh. I know I love the idea...want there to be such a thing...need someone who can't be defeated, is only good, and loves deeply. So, to quote a kids' song I've led many times..."Jesus, You're my Superhero, You're my Star, My Best Friend." This is true and this I know, but I don't always practice or remember. Because if I really trusted in His power, I wouldn't sweat the small stuff OR the big stuff. I'd understand he's gonna save the day...somehow, and usually not how I would - I'm just a human, after all. He loves me deeply - more than I can imagine or understand...in a supernatural way. And He is strong, unable to be defeated - even by death. I've heard recently that we need to get that white, effeminate Jesus out of our heads because we will be surprised when we see him coming like the warrior He is with a tattoo on His thigh and a sword in His mouth. He is my Superhero and I hope and pray that as my kids are enamored with the Marvel ones, I will be quick and wise to tell them that we have a REAL superhero within our reach.
In the mean time, I have a super husband that is not impenetrable today. He is sick and achy and acting like a baby who wants a Starbucks. So, I'm off to get him one (and me too, of course!).

Bar Nuts and Aprons
OK, maybe I'll become a food blogger after all:) We've just been discovering some awesome recipes and they're turning out to be so yummy! With Superbowl in mind, we found a great trick for THE BEST bar nuts! I'm serious...you're going to want to eat them all at once on your own.
2 1/4 c mixed nuts
2 T chopped fresh rosemary (please don't use dried)
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp brown sugar
2 tsp sea salt (unless the nuts are already sea salted, then omit)
1 T butter
Just roast the nuts at 350 for 10 minutes on a baking sheet. Meanwhile, mix up the other ingredients in a bowl. When the nuts come out, dump them in the bowl and stir/toss it all up until the butter melts and all the ingredients coat the nuts. Then, eat them warm - until you're sick:)!!!
**************************************************************
I've been "taught" to sew several times in my life. However, it never "sticks" in my brain so that I can do it again on my own without an aid. This time, my project (with my mama's help) is an apron. I think if I keep it up this time, I'll be able to remember next time. The question is will I keep it up?
