Wildhouse Part 1

We had an amazing photographer take our pre-baby family/my big belly photos a few weeks ago. Here are a few of the ones we have so far. There are more to come! She's also coming to the house to photograph Payson a few weeks after he's born--can't wait! We took the pics on the UT grounds. It was a smooth and easy session and I'd highly recommend Tali to photograph your family! Although, I can't help, but stare at my belly button in each picture. Not only is it way out there, but it looks like I have two. That's what I get for having it pierced all those years ago, I guess? Oh well. Click the link below for Tali Wildman's blog...

Our Funny Morning...

The kids woke up as usual, got dressed, etc. I'm in my bathroom getting ready, about to fix breakfasts when I look at Porter and his eyes look a little blood shot. I chalked it up to allergies?? Tyler was home this morning which is rare, so he had a look since he is an eye and ear specialist:) Tyler said "Nope, he has pink eye!". Well, crap. We scour the house for Alcon's pink eye drop, vigamox, which we find none of. So, Tyler calls his rep that lives 5 minutes away and goes to get some. Meanwhile, Porter keeps crying 1) Because he may have to miss school - he adores school! 2) Because he has to have drops in his eyes - he hates eye and/or ear drops. After breakfast and as Tyler pulls up with the medicine, I suddenly realize...today of all days at school is WEAR YOUR SUNGLASSES TO SCHOOL DAY! How perfect is that!?!?! So, Tyler gives him a few eye drops, I slap on the sunglasses and my boy with pink eye is ready for school. You may think we are irresponsible parents to let him go, but he knows not to touch his eyes and that's how it spreads. And if not, we have a new baby coming and we really could use the extra kids with pink eye to buy Alcon drops. Kidding. But seriously, if you could see how sad he was that he was going to miss school, you would have let him go, too:) I haven't gotten a call from the school, so I assume he's keeping his glasses on and has told his teachers he has "allergies" if they ask.

"You Don't Look Pregnant from Behind" and other comments...

Because I am pregnant, I will allow people to make constant comments, stare, make faces and ask silly questions. But, folks, you only have a few more weeks, so get it all out now. No one has really touched my belly, thank goodness, but I hear all of this a lot...

"Are you sure there is just one in there this time?"

"You are carrying so high...must be a girl...must be a boy"

"You are all belly"

"You don't look pregnant from behind"

"Looks like you are about ready to have that baby!"

"When you were pregnant with the twins, your arms and legs were a lot bigger, huh?"

"How much weight have you gained?"

And then of course there was the homeless man who bid me good luck because he has a granddaughter whom he can't stand. Nice.

For some reason, people think all rules are off when talking about pregnant women and their bodies. I'm not so sure about that, but I'm sure I've been guilty in the past.

So...YES, I'm ready to have this baby, although he needs to probably cook at least 2 more weeks. YES, there is just ONE in there and he is squirmy and takes up my entire torso, so I have no idea how two fit. YES, I obviously carry my babies high - my ribs literally burn. I'm not sure what it means that you can't tell I'm pregnancy from behind? I have a baby in my uterus, not my back or butt, although, I can guarantee you, my butt has grown in the process. Now, I wasn't aware I had Michelin Man arms and legs while pg with the twins, but thanks:) And as to my weight, I try to never look at the scale, but I have an idea. However, there is absolutely NOTHING I can do in the ways of gaining or losing. I eat when I'm hungry which is often. I eat what I can stomach which depends from day to day. And I am literally incapable of exercise - ouch. Baby is in control of this body and it's absolutely ok! I can use the rest:)

Almost 33 weeks...

I think I'm ballooning at a rapid pace now. This baby just may be a little giant. He also moves constantly. It's pretty crazy to feel and watch. I still have braxton hicks contractions, but I guess it's just what my body does during pregnancy. They are WAY less frequent with one baby rather than two, however. I have no real food cravings (besides those I can't have like a margarita, a large caffeinated coffee, or cold cuts that are not heated in the microwave - give me a plain ole cold subway, please!). For food aversions...wondering if I'll ever love hummus again since I ate it the night before my first major morning sickness. I have also given up on being comfortable - especially in the car or in the bed. This morning I twisted my ankle on the way down the stairs, so today walking isn't thrilling either. Besides all of that, I am really thankful for the health of this baby and myself...he is growing (obviously!), is head down and active, my blood pressure is lower than when I'm not pregnant, no gestational diabetes, and no swelling. The weight I'm gaining - that's another story, but it's just temporary is what I'm telling myself! The weeks are now passing by quickly and he will be here before we know and I'm READY! Worrying a bit about how it will all go down...I only know how to deliver and nurse twins:) And now that I have two other children to care for at the same time as a newborn - not sure about that. Just praying and trusting for the time being. And that's good enough!

Thoughts on Bullying...

I'm hearing lots of media talk today of sad, sad cases of bullying in schools. My thoughts immediately go to my own kids as they've just entered school. In the next 12+ years, chances are they will encounter their share of "mean kids" and unjust bullying. That someone could not see how great my kids are is beyond me, but I know it will happen. It will break my heart and hurt their feelings and I'm praying now that they will talk to us about it all and more than that, talk to their Lord - where their security rests.

I had my share of bullying (6 schools in 3 cities and people don't always like the new girl)...I was a tiny, shy, white, blonde-headed girl bussed to a junior high across town where I was a minority. A short, hispanic girl named Cathy wanted to fight me on the first day I was there. I kept dodging her until one day when I came out of the bathroom stall where her and her minions were surrounding me. I was saved by the janitor--shew. But after school each day put me in a panic. Luckily, she had lots of detentions and missed me on most days. One particular day I recall because I brought a pocket knife to school and stuffed it in my back pocket on my way out the door after school. I didn't see Cathy that day and thank God because I may still be in trouble for whatever I thought I may do with that knife? Crazy. However, we never fought and she soon got over whatever it was about me that angered her so. I think the next year, we were good friends. But, I didn't escape the year without being punched in the face and my lip busted...Derek, an older boy on my bus with orange tinted glasses had it out for me. However, my knight in shining skateboarding shoes took care of Derek for me. At the time, it was lovely to watch. Now - I know Derek must have been suffering in other areas of his life and/or home to harbor so much anger and violence.

Despite my survival, I still fear the harsh words and actions that may come to my kids throughout their school career. As I was hearing the horrible stories on tv and worrying about my own kids, I happened to read 1 Peter 2...

9For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.
22"He committed no sin,and no deceit was found in his mouth." 23When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 24He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed. 25For you were like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

I am so thankful that we never endure anything that HE does not fully understand!

Side note: I was not innocent and surely made fun of people who were not deserving and I feel bad for it now. Not only do I pray my kids receive kindness, but that they, too, are kind and loving to others no matter what!

Don't Forget...

...To Play in the Rain!

When someone forgets to tell me football practice is cancelled and when it starts to downpour on the walk home, PLAY:) And it's even more fun when our neighbors playing at the nearby park are caught in the downpour, too!

Payson's First Shower...

We just got back from a short, but fun-filled weekend in the Dallas metro. Once we got there (after I endured the seemingly long, UNCOMFORTABLE 4 hour trip), we had a great time with all our friends and family who are so loving and generous to us and this new life on the way. Thanks to Tyler's crazy travel, we get the perk of the occasional free hotel stay and this time we even got bumped up to a huge suite! Some friends and fam threw me a perfect shower on Saturday. It was so wonderful to see so many people come to honor Payson and us. My mom even came in from Kansas. We got tons of stuff we need for the babe (have I mentioned we gave EVERYTHING away that we had from the twins???!!!). So, thanks to everyone who gave us baby goods AGAIN:) The food and fellowship was great - I didn't want it to end. And let's mention the cake...THE BEST SHOWER CAKE EVER - even after a mysterious child poked his/her finger right in the middle of the boob that Angi quickly covered with flowers. Smart move. To top the day off, we got to have some Uncle Julio's (yum!) with our favorite party of 17:) The drive home seemed shorter (thank God!), but sadder. We miss everyone, and again - are so thankful for them all. No more travel for this mama until Payson is a few months old. But, people are still welcome to visit us. I have lots of gifts to organize and soon will have lots of diapers to change:)

Lastly, at the shower, my cousin Pat was asking about the pregnancy and said "And they said it would never happen". As much as I complain about pregnancy and as much as I was shocked and unprepared for this to happen, I never want to take away from the miracle that God has done by blessing us with this life. When "they" said it wouldn't happen, HE called things that were NOT as though they WERE. He is a great healer, provider, and obviously, surpriser:) As my wise friend said..."We can't wait to see how God is going to sanctify you through this new life".
